No disrespect but you're being ignorant about how much trash could be made in the time period I stated and how long it could take me to clean it all.

Thats a pretty low opinion to have of the members there. I cant think of anyone who would do anything approaching what you are suggesting and that includes people I dislike and think are asshats. SOF trolls have been non existent for months. I guess I just have a higher opinion of the members there than the staff seems to based on the reasoning behind the decision.

Except you did. You couldn't be bothered to moderate your site, what makes you think you are going to go out of your way to deal with pm's of people that want you to update a thread no one can post in? That makes zero sense.
To be fair on this particular point Animal is/was a volunteer mod with a job and a life. He was plenty active when he did have time to jump on the site and I have archived warnings to prove he was moderating the site lol. Perhaps he didn't moderate the site to some of our liking at times but to say he couldn't be bothered moderating the site I think is a bit much.

Awol made me a mod here just in case he needs some help if traffic starts to increase with TRS no longer a forum option. And while I am visiting the site sure I will have a look around and help Paul out in whatever way I can. But I mean if my offline life dictates I can't get on here for a few days, a week, or even more then I'll be away doing what I got to do and not caring what people think about my ability to "moderate" on here. For people who moderate fan sites its volunteer work, it's doing what you can do when you have time to. It's not a job, no one gets paid to have to comb through threads and sit through entire threads they don't care to read just to make sure people are behaving according to some particular standard.

"I'm sorry you don't agree with our decision on the timing of the change but we felt it was the best option when we considered the personality types of our more eccentric members and what they might do if given advance warning of a forum lock up. Now add all the people who don't even normally post but for some reason have a reason to dump on this place like SOF fanboys or just some lurking troll like this community has always had.

Think of how much chaos one person could cause if they had 9 or 10 hours while I was at work to do whatever they wanted. Then multiply that when everyone sees what's going on and they all jump on the bandwagon. You know we have more than enough of those type of people in our community to do some major damage.

So again I'm sorry it was so sudden but the staff all agreed that ripping the band-aid off quickly was the most favorable course of action."

The talk about changing avatars is evidence of this possibility, now multiply that for the more vitriolic community members.

I dont think anyone would cause any chaos that couldnt be immediately dealt with by banning them. And what "chaos" do you mean? Some shit posting? Or stupid thread titles that could be deleted? Doesnt seem like much of a danger.
100% this.

Not at all. He went out and said to report posts and such and he would take care of them but he never did. He continued to ignore shit like that and let stuff get out of hand in some threads.  The fact that we had issues, tried going through the correct channels and then just ignoring them spoke volumes.

Now he expects people to pm him to get things updated? If he couldn't be bothered to deal with reports, he's not going to deal with pm's because they show up the same way.

The problem I have with your approach Animal is that you constantly said one thing and then when gametime came, you were totally unreliable. You told us numerous times to not respond to agitators like Skimask and Hexum, to simply mark it and you would deal with it. I then watched, numerous times, as nothing was done to their posts where it was 100% obvious what their intent was.

The "chaos" that was on that website could have been dealt with months ago by permabanning the troublemakers. We all know who they were and because they were not banned, we had to deal with them ourselves and counting on tons of people to simply ignore them and wait for the one moderator to delete their posts it is as inconvenient as telling everyone if they want their posts updated to just message you.

Some points to consider, although I know they won't make sense to everyone....

Read only and shutting the place down are two completely different things. One wipes out our SOCOM history, prevents any dev or publisher from finding articles and forum discussions, and it would mean that probably the 3rd most active SOCOM-related website in history would no longer exist. Read only preserves all of that and keeps us poised for a new SOCOM when it happens.

If we would have extended a one week notice, that week would have been spent brainstorming ways to replace the staff, convince us to overturn the decision, or just outright protests and hissy fits. There might have been a few goodbye posts eventually, but read only is also not a "goodbye". It's a vacation that this community could use, including our staff.

The last couple of years have not been very productive all the way around with the exception of patch efforts and eSEALs. Both of which can still continue to provide updates and new content at TRS. Everything else has been drama that has slowly been leading to bigger divides within our community and a loss of longtime members. The more comfortable 10-20 of you got and the lower your standards became, the more people started to leave. There are tons of places to have your own grown man playground.

What do we have to look forward to right now and to discuss? Watching what happens with H-Hour? Waiting to see if Redline can hold it together? I have a good idea of what the next 6 months of posting would look like at TRS.

For me personally, the last two years has been painful to watch. We used to be missionaries for SOCOM. Creating content for interest and engagement, making sure SOCOM's name stayed relevant in the industry, and reminding Sony that they can't forget about us. Our staff would do something and the community would rally in an epic way behind it. But as the TRS staff produced less content, the community declined as well. Do you know how long I have waited for more groups like us to form? Every time someone stepped up with a new stream, a new YT channel, and a CM Night or posted a SOCOM article, I would think that the fire was catching on. But before long, it would go to shit, create a bunch of drama, and just not be received well.
A large chunk of longtime posters have gone from a missionary mindset to a fortress mindset.

Don't go out there and preach. Stay here and defend. Defend against any potential bs projects wanting our money and support. Defend against any dumb streamers who don't do things as well as some predecessors so attack everything about them. Defend against differing opinions because god forbid a Confrontation fan is heard by Sony over an S2 fan. So there's two CM night groups now? Let's just compete with one another and tear each other down and play it off as each other's fault. The community went from being excited about finding a new fan or a new reason to be involved with something, to providing tight security so any fan with a different viewpoint or from a different camp can't get in the club. If if they do get in somehow, make them so miserable that they will soon leave or give up.

Bottom line, years of this completely drained my passion. I feel like we went from trying to spread fires around the world, to TRS being the only campfire... and a lot of people started pissing on the flames out of boredom. I understand we had some shitty stuff happen to our community, but I also think we never recovered from it. Not in numbers per say, but in spirit for really growing our community.

Sorry the TRS staff finally halted it. You can hate us all you want, but I think over time a read only measure will be much more favorable than shutting the place down. And for every person out there upset that we didn't devote 30 hours a week again to revamping TRS, mad that we got tired of babysitting grown men who could no longer get along with each other, or felt the need to shit on and defend anything and everything that tried to make a move out there, you might want to consider doing some things on your own now. I've been waiting years for you to do it. To HELP US grow the scene after the Zipper shut down, instead of expecting 6+ year long volunteers to bleed just a little longer for your amusement. You guys didn't really want to do shit for SOCOM the last 18 months. Why are you upset now? I am also not surprised to see some of the same members try to now shit all over the staff. Conspiracy theories in less than 24 hours and I don't have one message from anyone asking a question to find out more info except two people. (Smokey and Mr. Blue) Interesting.

I really hope this frustrates some of you to the point where another forum is created. To the point where another staff is created to continue the type of efforts wepoured out our hearts for all these years. It's pretty depressing to spend so much time and energy to generate momentum, for some of the community to stop taking it seriously or to simply take it for granted. To no longer care about our reputation as a community or to value how important every active fan is regardless of the viewpoints.

The best part of the SOCOM and TRS community left a long time ago for all sorts of reasons, and even a top-notch advertising idea from a professional won't save them. Only a new SOCOM will, and even then, part of our community has moved on for good. Some might try to argue that the current staff is out of touch with their community. I challenge that notion by pointing out that we lead the charge when our numbers were still strong and in the thick of dealing with studios, publishers, and media. We were quite in touch back then. But as that deteriorated to one or two very small hive minds, we've all of sudden lost touch? I think it might be the other way around....

Be productive during this little vacation and build something to be proud of.

Why would anyone message you luke? You have been a ghost for several years now. Literally, non-existent..but we're supposed to message you for answers?

It seems you came back for one reason only and that was to shut the place down.

You also seem to be woefully out of touch with whats happening with various Socom related projects and the communities stance to most of them. You seem to think people just became defensive overnight and have no valid reason for being skeptical about every tom, dick and harry who shows up asking for donations for their project.

Clearly you guys have zero respect for the people who still frequented TRS.

You say the sites staff was being stressed. Maybe it was, I dont know all the details. But lets be perfectly honest, the only staff member making a VISIBLE presence on a day to day basis was Animal. I dont think I ever interacted with any of the other admins or staff outside of you once or twice in my entire time spent on TRS. Dont you think that is a problem?  Also, dont you think a response like this would be better on the website itself?
