Zipper Interactive -- Thoughts about the future? Empty Zipper Interactive -- Thoughts about the future?

Tue Jun 21, 2011 3:36 pm
Consider:

-SOCOM 1 thru 3/CA
-MAG
-SOCOM 4

Zipper has been the one company we could rely on to make a solid, dependable shooter that we could spend hours and hours playing, on a nightly/daily/weekly basis. Everyone has their opinions about each individual SOCOM game from SOCOM 1 to SOCOM CA -- but regardless of how you felt, they were ALL "SOCOM" games.

Then along comes MAG. MAG was an interesting game, definitely something new to the shooter world, something never before attempted. But it had little substance. It only had 1 map per team, per Gametype. It was respawn. It was First-person. It was upto 256 player-games. Fun as it was, it got old fast and I feel that myself and a lot of people sort of "forced" themselves to like it because it was by the company we love. Even so, we get weary of it all too fast.

And now we have the all-too upsetting, half-assed, blaspheming game, bearing the "SOCOM" title on the box, SOCOM 4. Where MAG had our faith shaken, the release of "SOCOM 4" has left Zipper's credibility cracked. I won't go into it, that not the point of this thread.

So I ask, where do the fans stand as far as their trust, support, and faith in Zipper lie? Do you think Zipper has harshly learned its lesson, and that we can hope to see a "real" SOCOM in the future? Or is "new" SOCOM only a dream, and that the series has indeed reached its end with Combined Assault, on the PS2?

Discuss:
-All of Zipper's SOCOM installments
-Slant Six's SOCOM Confrontation
-MAG

**NOTE: This is NOT a "Socom II HD" thread or opportunity, do not bring it up. Your post will be deleted/edited as necessary.

I really enjoyed Socom Combined Assualt as much as the rest of the Socom's which was played by me into 2008 waiting on Socom Confrontation. Even when Socom Con was released most of my Clan didn't buy a PS3 because they were 600 dollars, as much as my first car way back in my Teenager days.

Socom 1 was fun but the Clan side of the game for most didn't hit until Socom 2 came out. That is when gaming took on a whole new level for me. I had over 100 people in a Clan and played every chance I could.

If I would support Zipper on another Socom, well I would pretty much do the same thing I did this time, watch the videos and make my decision from that. I would buy another Socom from them because sooner or later they will get the idea that Socom was origib=nal and going back to that is new to many.

Clan support truly was the best thing about the Socom community/franchise. The friendships and all that bring people around the world together are definitely what made all those ridiculous hours worth it -- playing with good people. Even Slant Six saw this and made sure we had solid Clan features in Confrontation. Its a shame Zipper came up short in their own game. Socom 4 barely has any clan support. i almost feel like the "ladders" (not that their really ladders at all) don't matter. Its all simply rank-based.

I looked on that site and it has it listed for $56.99.

Am I missing something there or looking in the wrong place? I just searched "Socom 4."
