Your childhood is dead, sort of, but only if you're over 35. Atari U.S. — the maker of such classic, first-gen games as Pong and Asteroids — has filed for bankruptcy. But this might be more of a mid-life crisis than a death warrant for the firm, which was founded in 1972. In fact, Atari U.S. hopes its bankruptcy is simply a way for the brand to sever ties with its financially troubled French parent company. In a statement, Atari U.S. says it hopes to "secure independent capital for future growth" in digital and mobile games, which means that we might not have seen the end of Centipede just yet.
