How-to Guide: SOCOM II HDD Maps
Mon Feb 27, 2012 5:56 pm
If you want to play the "new" SOCOM II multi-player maps (After Hours/Liberation/Last Bastion), you need to:
1. Get the Sony hard disc drive (HDD) and plug it into your fat PS2.
You can always find them on Ebay ( http://tinyurl.com/c2b4jq5 ).
It must be a Sony, and some Sony HDDs work better than others. The SCPH-20401 model is the PS2 original and works the best. Check the PS2 Hard Drive Compatibility Chart ( http://tinyurl.com/cd4twot ) if you're not sure.
Once you get the HDD, (1) remove your PS2 network adapter, (2) connect the HDD to the IDE and power connectors, and (3) slide the adapter/HDD assembly back into the PS2.
2. Format the HDD with the Sony Utility Disc.
It must be the Sony HDD Utility Disc. If you format with an after-market product (e.g., HD Loader), the DNAS server will reject your login.
Ebay has them ( http://tinyurl.com/c7xjlrp ). But you could probably find it cheaper if you look diligently. Every so often you'll find an already-formatted Sony HDD for sale or auction (usually by a Final Fantasy gamer).
3. Go to the SOCOM II OPTIONS menu and click ENABLE HDD.
Too easy.
4. Install the maps onto your HDD.
This can be the hardest part because so few people have the map discs. If you can't find them on Craigslist, Ebay, Amazon, etc., then try your luck on the SOCOM forums. Good luck.

Think it need to be a official HDD for it to work. Don't think HDD Utility Disc be able to detect a unofficial hdd. You can use a unofficial hdd for homebrew, but don't think it will work with any official stuff.

You can use a regular USB hard drive I think. Put the drive in the USB slot on your PS2 and it does the same thing as having a HDD

I try using a unofficial hdd and it can't be detection. It work fine with hardbrew, but don't work with any official Sony game that support hdd.
